75 jobs go as pet food company buys Darrell Lea

At least 75 employees at the Darrell Lea factory at Kogarah were told on Monday they no longer had a job after the confectionery business was bought by a pet food family from Queensland.

Darrell Lea’s voluntary administrators, PPB Advisory, said they had agreed on the sale to the Quinn family and they expected it would be completed this week.

As part of the sale agreement, PPB Advisory has initiated a further restructure of Darrell Lea to strengthen its manufacturing, marketing and distribution operations and secure the jobs of 83 employees.

The Kogarah-based workers who lost their job are among the 246 permanent staff and 172 casuals to be made redundant.

PPB Advisory is working closely with the relevant unions and the federal government to try to secure the remaining entitlements.

Under the restructure, the remaining 27 Darrell Lea company-owned stores will cease trading on Sunday, September 9.
