Ann Waenga Worsley

Born and raised in Te Hāpua, the northernmost Māori community in Aotearoa, I grew up immersed in te ao Māori, with te reo Māori as my first language and tikanga a natural part of everyday life.

Like many Māori who move away from their ancestral homelands, spending years in the city saw me gradually lose some of the connection to my language and cultural practices. After moving to Australia, I made a conscious effort to reconnect with my roots through the Rātana faith, kapa haka and involvement in the Māori community.

It was through kapa haka that I discovered a love of performing, storytelling and connecting with people. Nearly 20 years ago, I met a broadcaster who hosted a Māori radio programme on 2SSR 99.7FM. I joined the show as a guest contributor and quickly found my passion for radio. I’ve been behind the microphone ever since.

For the past 18 years, broadcasting has allowed me to combine my love of Māori culture, music and community. I enjoy sharing the stories that matter, showcasing emerging Kiwi artists, promoting te reo Māori, and creating meaningful connections with listeners.

Whether I’m interviewing guests or sharing a laugh on air, radio gives me the opportunity to celebrate who we are as Māori while bringing people together through conversation, culture and music.

John Tukaha Ngatai

My broadcasting journey began during the Covid pandemic, when a passion for radio and storytelling inspired me to get behind the microphone. As the world reopened, I was fortunate to join the team at 2SSR 99.7FM, where I’ve become involved in a range of roles across the station.

Hosting my own programs remains the highlight of every week. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I enjoy sharing everything from classic throwbacks to today’s biggest hits with listeners. That passion comes through on both Saturday Jams and the Saturday Night Party Mix, where you’ll hear an eclectic mix of R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, Pop, Dance and Retro favourites.

Proudly of Māori heritage from Tauranga Moana, Aotearoa, I also co-host Māori Voice every Sunday. The program provides an opportunity to celebrate Māori music, culture, language and stories while building connections with audiences throughout the Sutherland Shire and beyond.
