AS iPad use expands in mainstream school classes, special needs pupils are also getting the digital experience.
Kirrawee Public School has expanded its teaching tools by giving children with disabilities the opportunity to enhance their learning.
The school’s support unit has three classes of 36 students.
It bought five tablets after a speech therapist recommended a different approach — a device to help pupils navigate through words.
Children use the iPads to watch educational video clips, and play musical activities to build up their co-ordination.
The tablets also help pupils improve speech.
Principal Selwyn Williams said they quickly became attached to their new gadgets.
L.J. Hooker of Menai recently sponsored a charity night to raise money for more iPads for the School.
