The Liberal Party has maintained strong momentum from last year’s State Government election and taken a swing of votes away from their opponents in all St George and Sutherland Shire councils.
In Sutherland Shire the Liberals enjoyed a landslide, gaining a swing of almost 20 per cent, securing a Liberal mayor to lead the council for the next four years.
Its team in Rockdale enjoyed a swing of about 12 per cent, which led an increase of about 8 per cent in Kogarah and 6 per cent in Hurstville.
In the Sutherland Shire on latest counting, it looks like there will be eight to nine Liberal or Liberal-aligned councillors and five Labor councillors, one in each ward.
Shire Watch has sustained a major hit, although E Ward Peter Towell is ahead 1100 votes and Damon Frith may stand a chance in A Ward.
In A Ward, former mayor Carol Provan is neck-in-neck with Liberal No. 2 Scott Williams.
The final results will not be known until about Thursday
