Lee Evans Member for Heathcote today reminded seniors in that 2015 NSW Seniors Week will be celebrated across NSW from this Saturday 14 March until Sunday 22 March.

“This year’s statewide Seniors Week will be supported by $200,000 in grants from the Baird Government, which were awarded to 192 local government, community, volunteer and not-for-profit organisations across the state to help organise events,” Mr Evans said.

“I was honoured to present NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards to seven recipients at a recent morning tea recognising the important contribution they make across many different areas of community life,” Mr Evans said.

Max Ninness – Outstanding contribution to rugby league particularly with the indigenous community

Dr Don Curran – Achievement and contribution to medicine

Ros Morton – On behalf of Sutherland Shire Community Transport

Joyce McKenzie – 2SSR presenter for nearly 30 years

Barb Newman – Integral contribution to VIEW for 30 years

Joan Fleming – Extensive involvement with Northern Illawarra U3A

Ron Hoffmans – 2SSR Classic music presenter since 1986

“I was inspired by the longevity and determination of these wonderful seniors who are an integral part of our community. Seniors Week is an opportunity for the whole community to say thank you to our seniors for their contribution to our community.

With the theme ‘Be Inspired’, 2015 NSW Seniors Week is about encouraging enthusiasm and creativity with a focus on activities that celebrate self-expression.
