Just Jazz is a 2 hour programme of some of the finest jazz musicians around the world.

While many consider jazz to have originated in America jazz may have had its beginnings  in Europe as early as the 1400s.

We can confidently say that Johann Sebastian Bach was improvising in the early 1700s and claimed that real music “exists beyond the boundaries of the page”.

And like many things,  jazz was massaged into many different forms from Louis Armstrong’s New Orleans  jazz, to early band jazz, to pre and post Second World War Swing, the Big Band era then BeBop, Cool Jazz, Free Jazz and many other forms of this entertaining music.  

In Just Jazz we play as many forms of interesting music as we can, from all parts of the world, including our great Australian jazz musicians like Don Burrows, Kevin Hunt, James Morrison and vocalists Hetty Kate, Emma Pask and Janet Seidel plus many more.

I’ve been interested in jazz most of my life. Coming from classical music parents I found a freedom in jazz I couldn’t find elsewhere. Even Chopin said in the early 1700s “real music exisits beyond the boundaries of the page”. So jazz has been around for a long, long time. Now I don’t like trad jazz or free jazz – I just don’t get it. Not only that, there is so much jazz around that pleases the ear and takes you away from the everyday.

In 2013 Graeme joined 2SSR and began with a jazz program “The Lighter Side of
Jazz”. After a short break in 2020 he returned with his love of jazz and renamed his program “Just Jazz” to appeal to wider audience.

My program Just Jazz is my music and I’m very selective in what I play. So why not join me in a journey “beyond the boundaries of the page”
