Police chase ends in car crash at Sans Souci

A POLICE chase reaching speeds of up to 128km/h through Brighton-Le-Sands ended with a 24 year old man, undergoing emergency surgery for serious head and leg injuries Sunday night.

Police allege the man’s car hit a sign post, almost slicing the car he was driving in two, at the corner of Sandringham Street and The Grand Parade, at Sans Souci.

They said they detected the man speeding at Botany and followed him to Brighton-Le-Sands but called the pursuit off about midnight.

A short time later police said they heard reports of a crash at Sans Souci.

The driver suffered serious head and leg injuries and paramedics took him to hospital for surgery.

A police critical-incident team will investigate.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch will hold a press conference this afternoon appealing for anyone who saw the Suburu or the crash to come forward.
