Lights go out on tradition at Bangor

IT WILL be a blue Christmas this year for the many people who have flocked to Santa’s workshop in Bodalla Crescent, Bangor.

Ray Goymer, who has spent 25 years transforming his home into a festive wonderland, has been forced to give up his hobby due to failing health.

The house, when lit up, was so spectacular it was featured in a book, Christmas Bright.

Wife Margaret said the whole family and community was sad that such an endearing tradition had come to an end.

Mr and Mrs Goymer said they could not put a price on their extensive collection of Christmas decorations, which they were now off loading.

Visitors have donated $20,000 over the years to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The couple are open to offers for their thousands of pieces, including harp-playing angels, a ceramic village settings and a giant golden reindeer that have sat in their front yard each December.
